More about the Book

As I'm sure you have guessed from the title, this book is about managing anxiety. Anxiety is when we have long term worries that stop us doing certain things that we might actually enjoy or that we need to do like shopping , meeting new people, taking tests etc. Anxiety shows up in how we think, feel emotionally, our behaviours and symptoms in our body like headaches and stomach aches.

The good news is that there are certain activities we can do as an individual, family, group or in the classroom, to help us manage these worries, and believe it or not, they are actually quite simple to do.

My Story

After suffering with anxiety myself, I found the best way to manage it was to first learn all about it, which included understanding why it happens and being aware of what it felt like for me. After finding some great ways to manage it myself, I have spent many years since showing children and adults alike ways to manage anxiety themselves. Some of that knowledge and learning has gone into this very book.

What's so different about this book?

Apart from having some great characters and an engaging story set in a magic academy, this book contains both wonderful anxiety busting activities and some sciency bits to actually explain in simple terms what anxiety is and why the tips and tricks in the book are so powerful, they might as well be magic.

Although an illustrated book, the information it contains are amazing for all ages from 5 years old up to 99 years old. Even before the book was finished we made sure we got some feedback from parents, teachers and other professionals who worked in mental health and with children and young people. Here are what some of them had to say:

Some testimonials

Read it to (son’s name) who struggles with rejection sensitivity dysphoria as part of his ADHD which causes him a lot of anxiety and he really likes it. Good job.

Lovely story of friendship, empathy and compassion to support conversations with children about managing anxiety. Could be used by teachers, social workers, support staff and parents/carers. Easy read for children to use as a reminder of techniques for when they are struggling.

Simplified language to explain the "sciency" bit - normalises the experience and the variety of techniques give children different options to try.

The use of friendship as a way of showing we are not alone and that everyone has feelings of anxiety now and again and its something we can all learn to cope with.

This is a great book that helps children visualise how to deal with anxiety and any emotions that are thrown up with stress. Whilst reading it I could imagine each of the characters and how they helped visualise the core of the anxiety and use techniques to help cope with this. As it was written as a story it was much easier to follow and was written in speech that young children can understand.

Provided genuine workable solutions to real life issues children have. I thought the characters were good and the techniques were easy to follow and made sense. Well presented.
